Cá Basa làm thật sạch, rửa nhiều lần bằng muối với nước sạch để cá hết nhớt, bớt mùi tanh. Để cho cá thật ráo nước. Dưa cải chua rửa sạch nhiều lần, vắt ráo cho bớt độ chua mặn.

Đun nóng nồi với dầu ăn, thả hành vào phi thơm. Sau đó cho dưa cải chua vào cùng với 1 muỗng nước mắm, 2 muỗng nước tương, đảo đều cho dưa cải chín.
